Is Your Tech Company Connecting You to the Industry?

Jobba discusses the importance of finding a technology solution that simplifies your business and why APIs are the key to fixing data silos.

In Episode 27, Season 4 of Roofing Road Trips, Heidi J. Ellsworth from RoofersCoffeeShop, road trips to Chicago, Illinois to meet with Steven White and Jim Rizzo of Jobba. The three discuss why contractors should choose technical solutions that solve more problems than they create and how contractors can simplify their tech stack.

“My main objectives are to help our clients to transform their business with technology that mirrors their workflows,” says Jobba Chief Transformation Officer Steven White. “But then also to help transform the industry and really get the industry working together to solve some of these big problems we have and figure out some of the technological issues facing us.”

“I’ve learned a lot myself in the last 10 years about how contractors really interact with technology, how they develop it in their business,” says Jobba Vice President of Sales Jim Rizzo. “Our interactions with today’s technology are changing. It is now more important than ever to think about your technology relationally. You got to really sit down and find out where information is going, what certain apps need to do, and how that data will get there.”

The two discuss API capabilities and why they are an essential part of technologies working together. An API, in simple terms, is a technology function that allows your software to communicate with other software platforms. When technologies aren’t able to talk to one another, you create data silos.

“There’s a problem, because that creates more work to get the data in and out of that platform,” says Steven. “So you might be excited that you bought an app that did a great job for estimating, but if you have to assign a person to manually enter in 50 work orders and then figure out a way to get it out the other end, you’ve created more problems.”

This is why it is so important to find technology that works with your company and will deliver on its promises to make your business run smoother and more efficiently.

“The goal of the game from now on is going to be, from this time forward, trying to get back to one login,” says Jim. Steven adds, “The key question to ask is, ‘is your current technology helping you simplify your tech stack and your workflows in your tech landscape, or adding on more work?”
