In 2017, the Davis Memorial Foundation will give out 10 scholarships to students throughout the western states. During their 20th anniversary celebration, money will be raised for 2018 scholarships. The sporting events and auction will raise enough for 10 scholarships but the goal is to make it 20 scholarships for 20 years!
So, the Foundation is taking it one step further. During the middle of the auction (June 11, 2017, at 5 pm at the Paris Hotel, Las Vegas), individuals and companies will be asked to donate funds for individual scholarships. These scholarships will be able to be sponsored by the donor with their input on the type of recipient (i.e. construction field major) for the sponsored scholarship.
The Davis Memorial Foundation‘s mission is to support education, particularly as it relates to the development of a well-educated construction industry. Founded in 1995 in memory of Larry and Mary Davis, the Davis Memorial Foundation awards scholarships and grants and sponsors technical seminars at colleges and universities.
Larry and Mary Davis personified the heart and spirit of the roofing industry community. Committed to supporting the professional standing of roofing contractors, Larry promoted high standards and believed that a well-educated membership was key to the industry’s future success. Founder of State Roofing Company in Modesto, California, Larry served as a director on the WSRCA board of directors and was active on several committees, often flying to meetings with his wife Mary in their private airplane. They perished in a plane crash in 1995 when they were returning from a Western States committee meeting.
