Asking The Right Questions, Getting Accurate Answers

In this new Read Listen Watch® (RLW), Heidi J. Ellsworth hosted Eugene Zukowski, Michael Black and Alex Pegnato to talk about the power of data. Eugene is Jobba Trade Technologies’ senior product specialist; Michael is the director of service and maintenance at Sutter Roofing and Alex is the chief operating officer of Pegnato Roof Intelligence Network.

In this special webinar, the panelists discussed how contractors can take advantage of the latest technologies and reliable, easy methods of collecting roofing data to better their business processes and strategies. By learning how to collect clean, accurate data, businesses can find where to best implement change, cutting down on time and resources wasted on outdated or inefficient existing processes.

The conversation opened with Heidi asking the panel for their advice for what contractors should be asking themselves when it comes to using data. The panelists each had valuable insights. Michael explained, “Obviously there’s several things being the roofing contractor, weather and all that, but my main thing is the customer satisfaction.” As for Alex, she shared, “What we look for as biggest is timely communication, and that’s kind of what our focus would be.” Eugene explained that these concerns can all be answered with the use of data. He clarified, “To me, data is about what questions should I be asking? In Michael’s example, its customer service, who’s unhappy? How do I know that quickly? Alex’s is, are we responding to people in the right time? How do I know that right away?” His goal is always to identify these issues and figure out what needs to be done to correct them as efficiently as possible.

For each of the panelists’ priorities, data offers the solution, but they know it isn’t always simple. Eugene elaborated on this point, sharing, “Data could be overwhelming because again, each small or big organization, there’s tons of it being accumulated daily. I like to use the phrase, analysis paralysis. When you’re looking at so much data, you don’t know what to do.”

Alex’s solution? Keeping it simple. She explained, “There’s so much information. Figure out what data really matters. What are you trying to accomplish? What are you trying to achieve?” Not every piece of data recorded will be used and that is perfectly normal. Just because you have access to it doesn’t mean you have to use it. Michael added,, “Data has become a change mindset for contractors. Data is more important than the roof repair right now.”

By opening one’s business and self up for change by implementing new processes or strategies based on accurate data results, contractors can greatly increase their productivity and overall success!
